About us

The Linlithgow String Orchestra was formed in May 2016 by a group of local amateur musicians keen to establish a community orchestra for the Linlithgow area.

Highlights for the orchestra have included performing ‘Zadok The Priest’ as part of a massed group of musicians and singers alongside Linlithgow Reed Band, Linlithgow Ladies Choir, Linlithgow Rugby Club Male Voice Choir, St. Michael’s Parish Church Choir and other local singers in March 2023 at St. Michael’s Parish Church - this was not only a 1st for community musical collaboration in Linlithgow but also only a few weeks before King Charles III’s Coronation! Back in 2016 in its foundation year, the orchestra featured on BBC Radio Scotland and was part of the BBC's virtual orchestra for the Proms - which culminated in a special trip to the Usher Hall to see Marin Alsop rehearse with the São Paulo Orchestra.

Membership of the Linlithgow String Orchestra is open to string players of Grade 5 standard and above (no audition) - new members are always welcome!

LSO meet on Monday evenings during West Lothian schools term-time at Linlithgow Masonic Hall 7.30-9.30pm, performing at least 2 concerts a year at the end of each term. Players pay a nominal termly fee to play in the orchestra which covers the cost of hall hire, music etc.
